Jesus Learned Through Suffering
6:30 AM (S CAR time)
7 In the days of His humanity, aHe offered up both prayers and pleas with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His devout behavior. 8 Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected, He became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey Him, 10 being designated by God as High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek.
New American Standard Bible (La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation, 2020), Heb 5:7–10.
I am wrestling with the fact that Jesus was so human - in my eyes, Jesus was still perfect and lived out a perfect existence here on earth. But what this is saying is that Jesus lived though these very human (imperfect) emotions such as loud crying, tears streaming down His face, to be able to communicate to the Father that He want to be saved from death (let this cup pass from me). ALSO, to think that He had to learn (imperfect knowledge) obedience, saying that His perfect understanding did not translate over when He became human is very interesting. It's like He has perfect knowledge before and after living as human, but chose to take away not only parts of His godhood, but His knowledge as well SO THAT He could truly live and experience humanity.
Oops I am just now finding out I read previous chapters vs the ones I was supposed to read today haha
19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,
New American Standard Bible (La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation, 2020), Heb 10:19. We can freely come to Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirt because of what was done on the cross.
32 But remember the former days, when, after being enlightened, you endured a great conflict of sufferings, 33 partly by being made a public spectacle through insults and distress, and partly by becoming companions with those who were so treated. 34 For you showed sympathy to the prisoners and accepted joyfully the seizure of your property, knowing that you have for yourselves a better and lasting possession.
New American Standard Bible (La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation, 2020), Heb 10:32–34. Echoing that to live to Christ is walk though suffering gracefully - since anything that we suffer will be restored when we die. We have Jesus, and that is enough, forver.
PSALM 29 The Voice of the LORD in the Storm.
New American Standard Bible (La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation, 2020), Ps 29.
Cool psalm comparing God to storms that David had seen.
